Klenzesteg footbridge, Munich

The rough empty space in the Stadtgefuge between Reichenbachbrucke and Wittelsbacherbrucke should be maintained in its unity. The Klenzesteg must not be an obstacle that grinds it up. Therefore, its structure is as slender as possible and it is trimmed in such a way that its curve is reduced and it becomes lighter and narrower. In addition, it is completely covered with stainless polished steel parts that reflect the meadows and pastures, the Isar, the sky, Munich and its inhabitants. The footbridge is constantly changing so that it itself becomes invisible. It will reflect life and the infinite changeability of the place where it is located. The reinforced concrete piers order themselves with structure, but at the same time represent a rhythm and a dissonant “jazz geometry” that allows one to imagine the bridge floating on the Isar.

A rough, formal and structural method to build a vibrant, poignant and unique bridge.
