“Los Andes University Civic Center” initiative is a milestone in campus design and construction strategies for both the University itself and the country. The University determination to keep up to date with the current social situation underlined by the national effort to achieve peace, is reflected not only in the academic search for the new generations, to stop post-conflict, but also by the way it intends to build democratic infrastructures that will offer quality public spaces, which will blur the boundaries between the different users. Conscious of the commitment of the academic body to reconstruct a new country, our proposal seeks to generate a new urban centrality where culture, education, nature and technology will come together openly to the public, highlighting and contributing to the current conditions of the place and proving ways for the city to evolve and to take part in the social changes of the country.
In order to achieve this, the project is based on three key strategies:
1. Creating quality active public spaces within the network of existing public spaces, where pedestrians will be highly considered.
2. Extending the ecological system of the place by continuing the existing and future natural structures.
3. Strengthening the academic and social role of the University by offering spaces where both academic processes and civic activities can coexist.
