Madrid Río has been chosen from among the 200 most significant works of contemporary architecture in the world selected by the C.guide. The list includes works from 1975 onwards, which represent, according to the selection committee, “the most relevant and hopeful avenues of contemporary architectural practice”. It can be consulted at the link ArquitecturaContemporanea-200best
The C.guide is an interactive guide to contemporary architecture with a global vocation, promoted by the Fundación Arquitectura Contemporánea and sponsored by the Cosentino Group. After a long process of debate, its scientific committee has made this selection of 200 works, which are included in the guide with the highest rating (CCC), reserved for exceptional architecture, “that which in itself would justify a trip”. The list is proposed as a reflection of the plurality of strategies and approaches to tackle the complexity of the contemporary landscape.
As explained by the Contemporary Architecture Foundation, the selection raises questions and seeks to identify the most hopeful vectors of architectural practice. In the words of the scientific committee: “We have travelled the world in search of projects that, instead of telling people how to live, ask them how to live; that are committed to communal living; that combine the highest technology with traditional constructional wisdom; that confront the problem of rural depopulation; an architecture that recycles, that understands itself as a process and that seeks equity”.
